STHREE THAAL THARANG is a unique group of all women musicians who under the guiding force of Sukkanya have clinched a special status in music circles with their unique talents.
Sukkanya is the brain behind the GHATA THARANG. Thanks to the lackluster treatment given to secondary percussion instruments in carnatic music and also to lady percussion artistes. These are the factors, which were working in Sukkanya's mind to create a sensation by playing a melody in 6 ghatams of selected pitches. This brought the Ghatam to the position of main platform. So far even any male artistes have not made such an attempt in carnatic music. While it is difficult to play even one ghatam, Sukkanya’s sheer determination to fight against odds has made this concept possible. Sukkanya collaborated with other women percussion artistes and melody instrument artistes and this has given birth to this unique instrumental ensemble in which ghata tharang is the main attraction.
The artistes of STHREE THAAL THARANG are brilliant, talented and are masters in their own right in their instrument. Each artiste is known to perform in her unique style on her instrument.
LAYA RAAGA SANGAMAM is a unique and novel concept of playing a raga scale with a percussion instrument.
This group has performed in many places in India and has received roaring appreciation from music lovers. India’s national daily “THE HINDU” reviewed this attempt as “BRILLIANCE PAR EXCELLENCE”. Sthree Thaal Tharang given a special recording to the world space radio. This group has released an album RAINBOW that has got a selection of thematic pieces with carnatic music background.
